Street sweeping crews will fan out across Hilliard starting Sept. 8. The annual cleanup is expected to take six to eight weeks.
The city has hired a contractor to sweep every public roadway in Hilliard, beginning in the Blue Zone, according to a city announcement published Sept. 3. The project covers five color-coded zones: Blue, Purple, Orange, Yellow and Green.
A zone map on the city's website shows the five service areas, which span corridors including Hayden Run Road, Avery Road, Britton Parkway, Davidson Road, Dublin Road, Roberts Road, Scioto Darby Road, Walcutt Road and Hilliard-Rome Road.
The goal is to keep streets safe and prevent storm drains from clogging.
Crews will work weekdays only, skipping each neighborhood's scheduled trash pickup day. Digital signs will go up on key residential streets before sweepers arrive so residents know when their area is next.
What residents need to do
The city is asking residents to help while crews are in their neighborhood:
- Park in the driveway, not on the street, between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m.
- If street parking is unavoidable, do not park over a storm drain.
- Keep brush, branches and yard waste out of the street. Sweepers cannot pick up those items. Put them out for yard waste collection instead.
The city has not announced the order in which the remaining four zones will be swept after the Blue Zone. The announcement, written by city communications staffer Jarrod Clay, did not include a specific end date beyond the six-to-eight-week estimate.
This program is separate from the storm-debris cleanup Norwich Township is wrapping up, which has its own Sept. 8 pickup deadline. The citywide sweeping is a routine annual project, not a storm response.
Updates on the sweeping schedule will be posted on the city's website and social media channels.
