Westbound Roberts Road will shut down Sept. 21 for a full reconstruction the developer plans to continue through the fall.

The closure affects Roberts Road west of Alton & Darby Creek Road, according to a City of Hilliard announcement published Sept. 14. Eastbound traffic will remain open. Drivers heading west will need to follow a posted detour using Alton & Darby Creek Road and Walker Road.

The road work is part of the Alton Place mixed-use development, a 343.3-acre plan Hilliard approved in 2020 near Roberts and Alton Darby Creek roads. The plan includes single-family and attached housing, commercial areas and 171.7 acres of open space. Developer Alton Place LLC, led by Dwight McCabe, is handling the road project, which covers new sidewalks, shared-use paths, street lighting and utility upgrades serving the development's commercial and mixed-use sections.

Construction was originally expected to begin June 1 but was delayed after a new water line was not submitted for chlorination. City Engineer Letty Schamp told NBC4 on July 22 that "the line had since been chlorinated, though the developer had not provided the city with an updated construction schedule." The Sept. 21 date is the rescheduled start.

The western single-family portion of Alton Place was about 70% built as of July, Schamp estimated at the time. A separate mixed-use area between Bridgeview Trace and Roberts Road had not begun vertical construction as of that same month.

No specific completion date has been released. The city's announcement says work will continue throughout the fall.
