The Hilliard Davidson Wildcat Marching Band won Grand Champion at Maysville's Band-A-Palooza, topping all classes with a score of 87.890.
The band ran the table at the competition: best music, best guard and best percussion, according to the school's Oct. 20 announcements. Davidson also claimed the Class AA title.
The Grand Champion finish capped a two-competition weekend for the Wildcats. Davidson opened with a second-place trophy at River View High School before heading to Maysville, where the band earned the top overall prize and ran the table on caption honors.
The Ohio Marching Beat, which tracks competitive marching band results across Ohio, confirmed the Grand Champion finish and the 87.890 score. Other class winners at Band-A-Palooza included Tri-Valley in Class A, St. Clairsville in Class B and Crooksville in Class C.
The Hilliard Davidson bands account on Instagram called it "a great weekend for the wildcat band" and thanked parents who helped make the competitions possible.
The Maysville results extend what has been a strong fall season for the program. Davidson earned a superior rating at its first band competition in September, a performance that qualified the Wildcats for the OMEA State Marching Band Finals, according to a Sept. 22 school announcement. A superior rating is the highest mark an Ohio marching band can receive at a competition, and earning one on the first outing of the year set the tone for the weeks that followed.
With the Grand Champion trophy, three caption awards and an earlier state-finals qualification already in hand, the Wildcats head into the back half of the marching season with momentum. No date for the state marching band finals or the band's next competition appeared in the school's announcements.
