Hilliard Darby is headed to the playoffs after shutting out Marysville 19-0 on Friday, Oct. 23, clinching the 13th postseason berth in school history.
The Panthers will host Miamisburg in a Division I, Region 2 first-round game Friday, Oct. 30, with kickoff at 7 p.m., according to the Darby football program's website. Darby is the No. 8 seed in the region. Miamisburg enters at No. 9 with a 4-6 record, according to OHSAA's final computer ratings.
The 6-4 finish gives Head Coach Brad Burchfield his first winning season in two years leading the program. Darby went 3-7 in 2025. It is the Panthers' first winning regular season since 2021.
Shutout without top rushers
Darby won the Marysville game without leading rushers Kohen Kornegay and Braylon Griffith, who combined for 1,972 rushing yards and 15 touchdowns through the first nine games, the team website reported. Kornegay's 1,169 yards on 152 carries made him Darby's first 1,000-yard regular-season rusher since Blake Horvath ran for 1,464 in 2021.
The Panthers leaned on younger players. Sophomore Parker Evans broke a 68-yard touchdown run in the first quarter. Freshman Zavier Hunter connected with Cedric Holman on a 15-yard touchdown pass in the second quarter. Holman added a 55-yard rushing touchdown early in the fourth to seal the shutout.
Marysville came away empty on several first-half red-zone trips, with a missed field goal, a turnover and a turnover on downs.
Scouting Miamisburg
Miamisburg plays in the Greater Western Ohio Conference and carries a 4-6 record. The Vikings' only common opponent with Darby is Hilliard Davidson, whom Miamisburg beat 21-14 in Week 3, the Darby football site noted. Miamisburg has no wins over a team with a winning record, according to the same site.
Under the OHSAA's playoff format, the top 12 teams in each region qualify and the top four seeds receive a first-round bye, as Stateline Sports Network reported. Darby and Miamisburg, seeded eighth and ninth, play in the opening round.
Bradley also in
Hilliard Bradley also qualified for the Division I, Region 2 bracket as the No. 5 seed after beating Dublin Coffman 42-21 on Oct. 23. Hilliard Davidson's season ended with a 31-7 loss to Upper Arlington.
A Darby win would send the Panthers to No. 1 Toledo Whitmer for a regional quarterfinal at 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 6.
