Hilliard Darby's volleyball season ended Monday, Oct. 26, with a three-set loss to Dublin Jerome in an OHSAA district semifinal.
Jerome swept the Panthers 3-0, according to results posted on MaxPreps. Individual set scores were not available.
The defeat closed out a 5-18 season for Darby. The Panthers opened the year 3-2 with wins over Reynoldsburg, Westerville North and Grove City, but an 11-match losing streak from Sept. 3 through Oct. 1 dropped them to 3-13. Darby picked up two more wins down the stretch, beating Central Crossing 3-0 on Oct. 3 and Westland 3-0 on Oct. 21, before entering the postseason.
Jerome dominated the season series against Darby. The Celtics won 3-0 at home on Sept. 17 in Ohio Capital Conference play, then took the Oct. 6 rematch at Darby 3-1. Monday's district semifinal made it a clean sweep of all three meetings.
The Celtics improved to 12-11 overall with the win after finishing the regular season 11-11. Jerome went 5-5 in OCC Cardinal play, placing third in the division, according to MaxPreps.
Jerome advances to face Olentangy Orange in the Division I Central 5 district final at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 29, at Westerville Central High School.
