Drivers who use the Cooke Road and Dresden Street intersection will need to find another way starting Friday, Aug. 14, when the Franklin County Engineer's Office shuts it down for approximately five days of roadway improvements.
The closure, announced by the Franklin County Engineer's Office on X, is weather-dependent and could reopen around Wednesday, Aug. 19. That date is also the first day of school for Hilliard City Schools, according to NBC4, meaning families navigating back-to-school traffic may still encounter construction if work runs long.
No detour was announced.
Part of the Cooke Road Improvement Project
The intersection work is part of the broader Cooke Road Improvement Project, which the Franklin County Engineer's Office described in a June 18 update as an effort to create "a safer, more connected corridor." A prior phase of the project wrapped up July 21 when Cooke Road between Cleveland Avenue and Walford Street reopened to traffic.
Active road closures nearby
The Cooke Road work adds to a growing list of road closures across the Hilliard area:
- Alton Road between Alkire Road and O'Harra Road is closed daily 8 a.m.–5 p.m. for approximately 12 days of drainage maintenance starting Monday, Aug. 10.
- Hardy Parkway Street closes Monday, Aug. 17, for approximately 30 days as part of the $8.9 million Frank Road roundabout project.
- Amity Road between Carter Road and Scioto & Darby Road remains closed with no reopening date after downed power lines from recent severe storms.
As we reported Aug. 12, the Amity Road closure has no timeline for reopening.
