Drivers who use Alton Road between Alkire Road and O'Harra Road will need to find another way through starting Aug. 10.

The Franklin County Engineer's Office announced Aug. 7, that the stretch will be closed from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. for drainage maintenance beginning Monday. The work is expected to last approximately 12 days, weather permitting, which would put the reopening around Aug. 21.

The closure notice, posted to the engineer's office's X and Facebook accounts, did not specify whether the road will remain open on weekends or name an official detour route.

No detour was named.

The engineer's office has been running drainage projects across the Hilliard area this summer. Murnan Road between Kuhlwein Road and West Broad Street closed for similar work starting Aug. 3 and reopened after four days.

The daytime closure window overlaps with morning and afternoon commute hours on a road that connects Alkire Road to points north. The Franklin County Engineer's Office can be reached at 614-525-3000 for questions about the project or detour options.
