Hilliard's pickleball players are about to get 15 professional-grade indoor courts and year-round climate control, all under one roof on Britton Parkway.
Pickleball Kingdom, a national franchise with more than 50 locations, plans to open its first Columbus-area facility in late August at 4500 Britton Pkwy., according to an Aug. 7 report from 614NOW Magazine. The company posted a construction update to Instagram on July 18 showing its outdoor sign installed on the building.
The 36,000-square-foot facility will include a mezzanine viewing area, a pro shop, locker rooms and free daily beginner classes called "Pickleball 101," led by certified coaches. Leagues, tournaments and private events are also planned.
A sport that outgrew its courts
The opening arrives as Hilliard's pickleball community strains against available court time. Tim Hales, recreation supervisor of adult and youth sports for the City of Hilliard, described the surge in the city's Spring/Summer 2025 newsletter: "The demand for pickleball in Hilliard has skyrocketed in recent years."
Hilliard resident Rick Barnhart, 68, illustrated the growth in that same newsletter, saying his group expanded from one court to full capacity across three courts in just a few years.
The city introduced pickleball as a recreation program in late 2019 and added its first permanent outdoor courts at Roger A. Reynolds Municipal Park in 2020. When The Well recreation center opened at 3993 Cosgray Rd. on Sept. 18, 2025, it brought eight more courts indoors: six in the main gymnasium and two in the MAC gym.
Pickleball Kingdom's 15 courts will nearly triple the dedicated indoor court count available to Hilliard players.
What it costs
Hilliard-specific pricing has not been announced. At other Pickleball Kingdom locations, memberships run $85 to $99 per month for unlimited open play and court reservations with no added fees. Non-members can drop in for $8 to $15 per session or reserve a court for $15 per hour. The franchise also offers a 10 percent discount for current and former police, firefighters and military.
The Well, by comparison, charges Hilliard residents $288 per year for an individual membership, with pickleball open gym included.
What's next
An exact opening date has not been set. The facility's Instagram account, @pickleballkingdom.hilliard, will post the grand opening announcement and any remaining construction updates. The company originally signed its Hilliard lease in July 2025 with an early 2026 target; construction pushed that timeline to late August.
