Hilliard now has two bagel shops on Columbus Navigator's "9 Best Bagels in Columbus' list" published earlier this week.

The "9 Best Bagels in Columbus" list, written by Chelsea Wiley, includes Bear's Bagels at 4142 Main St. and the newer Bagels & Jam Co. at 4465 Cemetery Rd. No other suburb placed more than one shop on the list.

Bagels & Jam Co. soft-opened July 16 and is run by co-owner Sunny Muheisen and her father-in-law, Abdul Jamhour, a pastry chef with more than 30 years of experience. Muheisen grew up in New Jersey, where her family owned Muheisen's Bagel & Deli. She told Columbus Monthly in July that replicating East Coast bagels in Ohio required solving a water challenge.

"To get true New York/New Jersey style bagels, the water plays a key role," Muheisen said.

The "Jam" in the shop's name nods to Jamhour's surname. Beyond hand-rolled, kettle-boiled bagels, the menu includes rugelach, cinnamon rolls, sandwiches, wraps and salads. Muheisen's mother-in-law, husband and children also help run the family operation. The shop is open daily from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Bear's Bagels has been part of Old Hilliard since husband-and-wife team Charis and Lo Yost opened their brick-and-mortar shop in June 2024, according to a City of Hilliard business profile. The Yosts started the business in 2022, selling at summer markets and wholesale to local cafes before landing on Main Street.

Their process rests bagels for 24 hours before boiling and baking them. The Navigator roundup highlighted the shop's schmear lineup, which includes flavors like Chili Crisp, Pimento Cheddar and Sassy Strawberry made with Prospect Jam Co. preserves. Bear's Bagels also serves an exclusive house drip coffee roasted by Coffee Connections, another downtown Hilliard business.

Bear's Bagels is open Tuesday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., according to the shop's Instagram page.

The full Columbus Navigator list also features The Lox Bagel Shop in the Short North, Barry Bagels in Dublin and Fox's Bagel & Deli in Bexley, among others.
