Davidson moves freshman parent meeting to Aug. 26 after storms

Hilliard Davidson High School moved its Freshman Parent Meeting from Aug. 11 to Aug. 26, after severe weather threatened the Hilliard area the evening of Aug. 11.

The school posted the change the evening of Aug. 10, citing "incoming severe weather" as the reason for the postponement. By the morning of Aug. 11, more than 30,000 AEP Ohio customers across central Ohio had lost power, with Franklin County reporting 7,389 outages, according to 10TV. Forecasters warned of wind gusts above 60 mph and possible tornadoes for Tuesday afternoon and evening, as we reported earlier Tuesday.

The rescheduled meeting runs 6 to 7 p.m. on Aug. 26 and now overlaps with Davidson's Open House, scheduled the same evening from 6 to 8 p.m. Families can attend both events in one trip.

The original meeting had been set for 6 p.m. Aug. 11, in the school's Performing Arts Center, as we reported Aug. 5. The rescheduling notice did not confirm whether the Aug. 26 meeting will also be held in the PAC.

Davidson's first day of school is Aug. 19, meaning the freshman meeting now falls one week into the school year rather than before it. The school said it made the decision to "prioritize the safety of our school community."

Aug. 26 is shaping up as a packed evening for Davidson families. In addition to the parent meeting and Open House, the school's Club Fair takes place during lunch periods that same day, according to Davidson's back-to-school newsletter.
