Drivers who use Cooke Road between Dresden Street and Walford Street need to find another route. The stretch is now closed for roughly 75 days while crews rebuild the roadway and add pedestrian facilities.

The Franklin County Engineer's Office announced the closure Aug. 24. Weather permitting, the road should reopen in early November.

The work is part of the broader Cooke Road Improvement Project. In a June 18 update, the county engineer's office said crews were making steady progress toward a safer, better-connected corridor for the community.

How this differs from the earlier five-day closure

Residents may recall a five-day closure of the Cooke Road and Dresden Street intersection that began Aug. 14. That was a narrower shutdown limited to the intersection itself.

This closure spans the full segment between Dresden and Walford streets and adds a new component: pedestrian infrastructure. The Franklin County Engineer's Office did not specify whether that means sidewalks, a shared-use path, crosswalks or ADA ramps.

Detour and timeline

The county engineer's announcement included a photo, but specific detour routes were not detailed in the post. The office has not published an official alternate-route map for this phase of construction.
