Hilliard Bradley beat Hilliard Davidson 13-10 in overtime Friday, Oct. 2, claiming the crosstown rivalry game at Davidson's field.
The win pushed the Jaguars to 5-2 overall and kept them in the Ohio Capital Conference-Central race. Bradley entered the week ranked No. 15 in Ohio Division I and No. 9 in the Columbus area, according to MaxPreps. The Wildcats fell to 2-5.
The overtime finish capped a bounce-back week for head coach Mike LoParo's squad. Bradley had entered at 4-2 after a 24-7 loss to Upper Arlington on Sept. 25 snapped a four-game winning streak. Cleveland.com's Central Ohio rankings dropped the Jaguars from No. 8 to No. 9 after that loss.
The rivalry win should help Bradley's playoff positioning. Through Week 6, OHSAA computer ratings placed the Jaguars fourth in Division I, Region 2 with an 11.2833 rating. Davidson sat 16th in the same region at 2.55.
Freshman quarterback Tyler Strine Jr. has been Bradley's top rushing threat all season, averaging 96.5 yards per game on the ground and totaling 193 yards in conference play. Senior wide receiver Tre Pauleus leads the receiving corps at 42.5 yards per game with two touchdowns and 85 yards in conference games.
Junior Saron Stewart has accounted for five touchdowns this season, four through the air and one on the ground, with 223 passing yards in OCC play. Freshman linebacker Luke Seaman has added an interception to the defensive effort this season.
Bradley put together three consecutive lopsided wins in September: 56-21 over Grove City, 41-7 over Marysville and 49-14 over Thomas Worthington.
Both Hilliard teams return to OCC-Central action Friday, Oct. 9. Bradley travels to Olentangy Liberty (4-3) in Powell with a 7 p.m. kickoff. Davidson heads to Dublin Coffman (1-6).
